Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan?
Most new vehicles today come with a 3 or 4-year/36,000 or 50,000 mile warranty provided by the factory, known as a "manufacturer's warranty." The AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan provides coverage that goes beyond the limit of the manufacturer's warranty. With today's vehicles being more complex, repairs are more costly. Protecting yourself with an extended warranty from AAA can help you avoid a potential budget-destroying repair.
Q: What is the "Original Manufacturer's Warranty"?
The “Original Manufacturer's Warranty” is the initial warranty provided by the manufacturer for a new vehicle. Most Manufacturers offer an "Original" warranty that is limited to 36 months or 36,000 miles.
Q: Why buy it now? My vehicle still has coverage.
The earlier you purchase an extended warranty, the less expensive it is. The AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan is life insurance for your vehicle and, like life insurance, the older your vehicle is, the more expensive the insurance. As your vehicle ages and accrues mileage, the price for protection rises. Prices also may increase due to increases in the cost of labor and parts. An extended warranty plan from AAA gives you the coverage you need to protect your investment at today's low prices and arms you against the rising costs of repairs.
Q: My vehicle is out of manufacturer's warranty; am I eligible for coverage?
Based on the level of coverage you select, your vehicle is eligible for extended coverage with up to 150,000 miles on the odometer.
Q: My vehicle is very reliable. Why do I need a AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan?
Even well maintained, reliable vehicles may experience a mechanical failure. Older, higher mileage vehicles are more likely to have a breakdown. And, with the complexity of vehicles today, one major repair may cost you more than the extended warranty plan itself. An extended warranty plan from AAA gives you peace of mind in knowing it will be there when you need it the most.
Q: What types of coverage are available?
The AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan offers various levels of terms and coverage. You select the coverage level that best meets your needs. Motorcycle coverage is also available.
Q: What benefits do you offer?
The AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan offers AAA members exclusive benefits including:
- Alternate Transportation – Rental car reimbursement is available if you require a rental during repairs.
- Direct Claim Payment – Covered repairs are paid directly to the repair facility to eliminate unnecessary paperwork for you.
- Lifetime Deductible Guarantee – Ensures you will not incur deductible charges for second or subsequent failures to the same part.
- Transferable – If you sell your vehicle to a private party, you may transfer the plan to the new owner.
Q: Where can I take my vehicle for repairs?
You may take your vehicle to any licensed repair facility in the United States or Canada.
Q: How do I file a claim?
Take your vehicle, or have it towed, to the nearest AAA Approved Auto Repair
shop or to any licensed repair facility of your choice. After diagnosing the problem, make sure the repair shop contacts our Claims Service department at our toll-free number to obtain repair authorization before beginning any work. Repair authorization must be obtained prior to initiating repair work. If prior authorization is not obtained, your claim will not
be honored. When repairs are complete and you have notified us that you accept the repairs, the repair facility will receive direct payment, less the deductible, via our corporate credit card, which eliminates unnecessary paperwork for you.
Q: Does a AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty cover parts and labor?
Yes. The AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan covers 100 percent of all covered components, parts and labor charges less the deductible.
Q: How do I enroll my vehicle in a AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan?
You can contact us by calling 1-800-866-2111
or you may schedule a telephone call back by completing the Extended Warranty Quote request form located on AAA.com
Q: Where is my Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) located?
You can find the VIN in several locations. It is printed on your vehicle Registration card; on your vehicle Insurance card; and is often imprinted on a tag located on the dashboard near the windshield on the driver’s side.
Q: Do you offer a payment plan?
Yes, AAA offers an interest-free payment plan. For additional information, please contact us at 1-800-866-2111.
Q: Can I buy this same type of coverage through a dealership?
Similar coverage may be available through dealerships usually at a much higher price. AAA offers special Member pricing and coverage is available for most vehicles with up to 150,000 miles. With AAA, you have the freedom to go to any AAA Approved Auto Repair
facility or licensed repair shop across the United States and Canada.
Q: I have seen lower prices on the Internet. Why should I buy a AAA plan?
There are many plans available and AAA wants you to be aware of and understand the differences in each plan. The lowest price usually does not provide the best value. Your decision should be based on the financial stability of the insurance company and its claims service. When comparing companies, make sure you are receiving the same benefits, the same coverage, and ask to look at the contract prior to purchasing the plan. With a AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan you can be sure you will get hassle free, comprehensive coverage from a financially stable company.
Q: What if my vehicle breaks down and I am not near my home?
Breakdowns are inconvenient. A vehicle breakdown away from home can be extremely stressful. Your AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan provides complete protection and repair facility assistance anywhere in the United States and Canada. And, with more than 7,800 AAA Approved Auto Repair
facilities across the United States and Canada, you can rest assured your vehicle is in good hands. Wherever your travels may take you, our claims department is a toll-free call away.
Q: What happens to my coverage if I trade-in my vehicle?
When you purchase a plan, you have coverage throughout the term of your contract on your vehicle. If you decide to trade-in your vehicle, simply call us and we will calculate a pro-rated refund.
Q: If I sell my vehicle, is my AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan transferable?
Your vehicle is worth more in market value when potential buyers know it includes AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan coverage. You may transfer your coverage to a private purchaser. If you sell or trade-in your vehicle to an automobile dealer, you can cancel your plan and receive a refund for the unused portion. Refunds are determined based on time, mileage driven, and the date coverage began.
Q: I am not a AAA member. Can I still get a AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan?
The AAA Extended Auto Repair Warranty Plan is available exclusively to AAA members.
