Windshield repair vs. replacement

Can my windshield be fixed without replacing it?

If you live in Florida and have comprehensive insurance coverage, the deductible is waived when your front windshield is being replaced due to damage.

Not long ago, the only way to fix a damaged windshield was to replace it. Today, a durable resin-injection process can safely repair many windshields to like-new appearance for a fraction of the cost of replacement.

Size, age and location of glass damage determine when this type of repair is acceptable and when windshield replacement is needed. Below are six types of windshield damage that typically allow this type of repair.

• Bullseye: With a diameter no larger than one inch
• Combination break: Diameter of body (excluding legs) not to exceed two inches
• Half moon (partial bullseye): With a diameter no larger than one inch
• Star break: Diameter of the break not to exceed three inches
• Surface pit: Damage with a diameter of no less than 1/8 inch

Fix windshield chips before they become windshield cracks.

While a small rock chip may seem like a minor annoyance, it's a weak spot in your windshield. A bump in the road, a door slammed too hard or expanding moisture can cause that chip to spread into a dangerous crack at the worst possible moment.

Insurance may cover complete cost

Your windshield replacement cost may be fully covered by insurance. If you live in Florida and have comprehensive insurance coverage, the deductible is waived when your front windshield is being replaced due to damage.

We'll file the claim for you. Your insurance company may recommend a glass company they typically use, but it's your right to choose who will fix the glass in your vehicle. Choose the best: Auto Glass Assist. Other than calling us for an appointment, there is nothing else you need to do. We handle all paperwork associated with insurance claims for your chipped or broken glass.

Paying yourself? We may be able to help you save. The minimum required vehicle insurance coverage for Florida, personal injury protection (PIP) and property damage liability (PDL) insurance, will not cover your windshield damage.

If you are paying out of your own pocket, keep in mind that a less expensive repair instead of replacement may be possible.

Auto Club Assist offers a limited lifetime warranty for glass replacement services. This warranty cannot be changed or supplemented in any manner for any reason, except as set forth below.

Who is covered: The limited lifetime warranty applies for as long as you own the vehicle in which the repair or replacement was made and it is not transferable.

What is covered: Auto Glass Assist warrants replaced glass against defects in material and workmanship.

What is not covered: The limited lifetime warranty is void if this service order indicates purchaser's refusal, written or verbal, to authorize specific labor, parts or service required for satisfactory performance of requested replacement service due to any pre-existing condition.

How to obtain warranty replacement service: Contact Auto Glass Assist at 855.522.2349 to schedule your warranty service. You must present a copy of your service order to the Auto Glass Assist technician.

Auto glass repair service

Auto Glass Assist offers a limited lifetime warranty for glass repair services. The warranty cannot be changed or supplemented in any manner for any reason.

Who is covered: The limited lifetime warranty applies for as long as you own the vehicle in which the repair or replacement was made and it is not transferable.

What is covered: Auto Glass Assist warrants repaired glass against defects in material and workmanship. If you are dissatisfied with the repair, you can apply the original pre-tax repair amount toward the purchase of a glass replacement. No refunds are available.

What is not covered: If an attempt to repair a windshield results in the chip or crack becoming too large for safe repair practices, we will stop and recommend a replacement. Auto Glass Assist is not responsible for additional damage resulting from a repair attempt.
